The quick reaction by the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) in the Central Region on Wednesday, 19th February, 2025 saved the warehouse of Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) from fire ruins in Cape Coast, following a distress call reporting the outbreak.
The incident is said to have occured in the evening of Wednesday around 4:28pm.
According to the GNFS, upon arrival at the scene, they observed that the well alighted fire had engulfed the outdoor stock yard of the warehouse where 2x25 aluminium cables were stored and quickly had to call for assistance after accessing the situation and engaged in managing spread of the fire.
The Cape Coast Metropolitan Fire Station Fire Tender and the Water Tanker from Regional Headquarters were quickly dispatched to the scene to assist.
The firefighters after several hours of preventing the fire from spreading to the main warehouse by adjourning properties, the fire was finally extinguished around 8pm.
Sixty (60) 2×25mm Aluminium cables got damaged with no casualty recorded.
The Central Regional Commander, ACFOII Merinda Mary Attigah-mensah who was at the scene advised that fire safety should be given a priority in every facility or premises especially at this time when the weather is dry.
The cause of the fire is not readily known.
