The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has through a mammoth float through the principal streets of Cape Coast on Monday, February 24, 2025, created a public awareness on taking precautionary measures on fire disasters in the Central Region.
The float follows the Service's nationwide celebration of the fire safety week for the year, slated to hold from Sunday, 23rd February to Friday, 28th February, 2025.
In the wake of rampant fire guts across the country which leaves the Central Region no exception, the fire safety week seeks to sensitize the general public on the need to prioritize fire safety.
The week-long celebration with fully packed activities bares the theme, "Fire Safety: A Pillar of National Development and Foundation of Our Security."
Procession by the GNFS through the streets of Cape Coast saw fire officers in the Region share stickers on fire safety to the masses, whiles announcement on how to curb fire outbreaks was being made with displayed placards by personnel of the Service, whereas officers of the Service groove to delightful trumpet tunes throughout the float.
Central Regional Commander of the GNFS, ACFOII Merinda Mary Attigah-Mensah in an interaction with the media, implored the citizenry to be wary of fire burns.
She charged institutions and companies on the need to acquire fire extinguishers as first-aide tool for tackling fire outbreaks before contacting the fire service, barring any unforeseen emergency on fire.
ACFOII Merinda Mary Attigah-Mensah again shared worries on the Service's challenge of not having adequate fire post at various areas in the Region, coupled with the constraint of limited fire tenders.
