The Sunyani Diocese of the Methodist Church Ghana has inaugurated the Wesleyan International Society in Sunyani on Sunday February 23.
In pursuance of Standing Order 701 (4) and in accordance with the decision of the Expanded General Purposes Council (GPC) held at Akyem Oda in August 2023, the Methodist Church Ghana resolved to establish Wesleyan International Societies across the Connexion.
In fulfillment of this directive, the Bishop of the Sunyani Diocese, The Rt. Rev. Kwaku Effah, mandated the Diocesan Youth Organizer (DYO), Rev. Jonathan Amankwah Oppong, to spearhead the establishment of Wesleyan International Society in Sunyani.
Acting upon this instruction, Rev. Amankwah Oppong constituted a committee to oversee the formation of the society.
This dedicated team comprised the following individuals: Bro. Kwadwo Addai, Bro. Francis Nkasiah, Bro. Frederick Agyei, Bro. Elvis Nyantakyi, Bro. Samuel Owusu Henneh, Bro. Ebenezer Antwi, Bro. Kelvin Acheampong, Bro. Emmanuel Oppong Yeboah, Bro. Solomon Agyei Letah, Bro. Emmanuel Kofi Baah, Bro. Bismark Amosah Asare, Bro. Isaac Atta Nsiah, and Sis. Sophia Incoom, and Sis. Dorothy Appianing Asubonteng.
Rev Jonathan Amankwaa Oppong, Minister-in-charge of the Wesleyan International Society in Sunyani told Sompa FM in an interview that they have about 180 members recorded in their class books, with an average attendance of 110 during Sunday Divine Services.
He added that about 33 children are actively participating in their Children Service handled by 3 Sunday school teachers.
"Furthermore, the church is blessed with 15 Lay Preachers who diligently support the ministerial work and preaching assignments", he stressed.
"As we forge ahead, we remain steadfast in our mission to build a vibrant, Spirit-filled community of believers, dedicated to the advancement of God's kingdom and the holistic transformation of lives. To God be the glory for the great things He has done and continues to do in the life of Wesleyan International Society, Sunyani", Rev Amankwaa Oppong indicated.
The inauguration was graced by Rt Rev Kwaku Effah, Diocesan Bishop of the Sunyani Diocese of the Methodist Church Ghana, Past and present lay Chairpersons, other ministers and members from other societies.
