The Central Regional Minister, Hon. Ekow Okyere Panyin Eduamoah has shared frustration on how poor sanitation is been managed by citizenry of the Region.
He noted that upon assuming office as the Regional Minister, it has come to his notice the quantum of money the region frequently spends on sanitizing the environment.
Speaking at the 68th Independence Day celebration at Assin Breku in the Assin North District on the theme: "Reflect, Review, Reset," the Central Regional Minister emphasized that such practice needs not be encourage in this modern time and age.
According to him, government can spend on anything at all but not on diseases such as cholera which is merely caused by filth that the citizenry can well manage without any external assistance from government.
He implored chiefs within the Region not to relax in ensuring a safe and hygienic environment for their people, in other not to force the John Mahama-Jane Opoku-Agyemang administration spend funds allocated for the 24-hour economy initiative in collecting waste in other to keep the environment clean and also for the purchasing of malaria drugs for children meant to be train under the National Apprenticeship Programme.
Hon. Ekow Okyere Panyin Eduamoah reiterated that while the 24-hour economy plan focuses on economic growth and development, it's essential for the citizenry to ensure that sanitation and waste management are not neglected in the process, as effective waste management is crucial for maintaining public health, preventing environmental pollution, and promoting economic growth.
He further addressed government's undertaken plan to assist every district within the Region which ensures that the state spends little or no funds in collecting waste at the area at the end of every year by using the money meant for collecting waste at such district for developmental projects to encourage other districts to prioritize effective waste management.
Hon. James Gyakye Quayson, Member of Parliament for Assin North Constituency highlighted the need for collective resetting of the mindset among the citizenry for the growth and betterment of the country to compliment government's resetting agenda and also showcase Ghana's maturity in attaining 68 years as an independent state.
The Assin North Independent Day celebration saw three SHS schools, four JHS schools and three SHS Cadet corps parade in the match pass with participating primary schools like El Shadai Preparatory School, Breku D/A Primary School, 4-G Academy, Triple 'D' Preparatory School and Breku Presby Basic School.
The celebration equally garnered astute personalities like the District's Police Commander and Chief Director of the Regional Coordinating Council, Mr. Bless Dakeh, party executives, among many others.
