The taskforce is chaired by Deputy Chief of Staff in Charge of Operations, Mr Stanislav Xoese Dogbe, with Marietta Brew, Legal Counsel to the President, serving as Secretary.
On March 12, the task force conducted an aerial survey of flood-prone areas, including Weija, the Sakumo Ramsar Site, and the Tema Fishing Harbour area, to collect data for flood prevention strategies.
"The President, concerned about the persistent flooding not only in Accra but across the country, has set up a special task force to tackle the issue and minimise if not entirely prevent, floods, particularly within the Accra Metropolitan Assembly," Mr Dogbe stated during a media interview.
He announced that the Local Government Ministry, in collaboration with the Ghana Armed Forces, would immediately begin desilting major drains.
Brigadier General Richard Kinney, Commander of the Engineer Brigade of the Ghana Armed Forces, identified public indiscipline as a major cause of the long-standing flooding problem, especially among residents in flood-prone areas.
He noted that the team would prevent the construction of buildings in waterways to reduce future flooding.
Other members of the task force include the Minister for Water Resources, Works & Housing, Mr Kenneth Gilbert Adjei, Minister for Local Government, Mr Ahmed Ibrahim, National Security Coordinator, DCOP Abdul Osman Razak, and the Deputy Director General of NADMO, Mr Teddy Addi.
