The Second Deputy Speaker of Parliament Hon. Andrew Asiamah Amoako has ordered the Parliamentary Select on Defence and Interior as well as the Local Government and Rural Development Committee to consider the circumstances leading to fire outbreaks at various market places in the country in recent times and report to the House.
In addition, Hon. Asiamah Amoako ordered the Joint Committees to make recommendations on how to curb the fire outbreaks at the market places and present their report within the first week of the second meeting of Parliament.
The Second Deputy Speaker made this referral after the Member of Parliament for Subin Hon. Kofi Obiri Yeboah has made a statement on the devastating fire outbreaks at Adum, Kumasi in the Ashanti Region on the floor of the House.
In a statement read in the chamber today, Hon. Kofi Obiri Yeboah, expressed concerns over the high rate of fire incidents and the devastating impact on businesses.
He emphasized that urgent and drastic steps must be taken to mitigate the risks and prevent further destruction.
The MP made the statement in refence to a tragic fire outbreak recently at Adum and also at Magazine, destroying parts of the industrial hub and leaving many spare parts dealers and artisans with heavy losses.
The fire outbreaks have raised alarm across the country, underscoring the need for enhanced infrastructure and better policies to safeguard the livelihoods of traders in local markets.
