A 50-year-old woman, Ama Serwaa, has been arraigned before the Assin Kyekyewere Circuit Court for allegedly attacking and inflicting severe cutlass wounds on her two brothers, Awal Mohammed and Yaw Opoku, during a dispute over house rent in Assin Fosu.
According to reports, the conflict began when the brothers, who had taken out a loan for their late mother’s funeral, planned to rent out a room in her house to help repay the loan.
However, they discovered that Ama Serwaa had already taken control of the property and rented out the room without their consent.
When the brothers confronted Ama Serwaa and demanded that she vacate the room, the situation escalated into a violent argument.
Ama Serwaa allegedly pulled out a machete and inflicted severe injuries on her brothers' elbows.
The victims were rushed to St. Francis Xavier Hospital in Assin Fosu for initial treatment and were later referred to Koforidua Government Hospital for further medical attention.
Ama Serwaa also sustained injuries on her lips and hand during the altercation.
The incident was reported to the police, leading to Ama Serwaa’s arrest. She was subsequently arraigned before the Assin Kyekyewere Circuit Court.
Chief Inspector Gilbert Abangna Anyongo, the prosecutor, stated that Ama Serwaa is facing charges of causing harm, while Awal Mohammed and Yaw Opoku have been charged with assault.
Following the court hearing, each of the accused was granted bail in the sum of GH¢20,000, with two sureties.
