Mr Yaw Dabie Appiah Mensah, a senior member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Bono Region has urged the supporters and members of the party not to be discouraged by the party's political defeat in the Election 2024.
Instead, he asked the party to look forward to an electoral victory in the 2028 General Election, urging the supporters not to relax.
We must rebrand the party and continue to propagate the ideologies and market the party's 2024 flagbearer, the former Vice President Alhaji Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, he stated.
Mr Mensah, 75 years, and a former regional organiser of the NPP in the then Brong-Ahafo Region however emphasised that it would be politically suicidal if the party failed to maintain former Vice President as the election 2028 flagbearer.
In an interview with Sompa FM at Odomase in the Sunyani West Municipal of the region, Mr Mensah popularly known as 'Oga' said despite the NPP's political defeat in the last election, Dr Bawumia's popularity remained stronger.
"If we want to turn round our political fortunes and regain political power in 2028, then our great party must endorse Dr Bawumia by a popular acclamation because failure to do so will cause us dearly", he advised. Mr Mensah indicated that voter apathy contributed greatly to the defeat of th NPP in the General Election, emphasising the need for the party to remain formidable, identify and tackle some emerging internal challenges proactive The former Regional Organiser said he was very worried about some internal challenges emerging within the rank and file of the NPP, urging the party to forgive each other's offenses and forge ahead in unity.
