The Alliance for Social Equity and Public Accountability (ASEPA) has formally petitioned President John Dramani Mahama to initiate constitutional proceedings for the removal of Auditor General Mr. Johnson Akuamoah Asiedu.
The petition, filed on April 3, 2025, at Jubilee House, Accra, cites allegations of high crime, misconduct, abuse of office, and constitutional violations.
ASEPA’s petition invokes Article 187(13) of the 1992 Constitution, which outlines the process for the removal of the Auditor General.
The allegations against Mr. Asiedu include failure to comply with Supreme Court directives, connivance with the Audit Service Board to undermine parliamentary authority, unlawful retention of public funds, and abuse of discretionary powers.
The Executive Director of ASEPA, Mr. Mensah Thompson, emphasised the gravity of the accusations, stating that the petition marks the beginning of a constitutional process akin to the removal of the Chief Justice under Article 146.
