The District Chief Executive (DCE) of Assin South, Hon. Jonathan Birikorang, in a commendable initiative, has marked this year's May Day celebration with a general clean-up exercise at Assin Andoe.
This effort aims to promote environmental sanitation, community pride, and public health.
By organizing this exercise, the DCE demonstrates commitment to improving the living conditions of residents and fostering a sense of community responsibility.
The initiative aligns with the global efforts to promote sustainable development and environmental protection.
The exercise saw a number of revered personalities of Assin Andoe together with vibrant youths of the community all joining hands with the DCE to promote a hygienic and conducive environment for the citizenry.
Hon. Jonathan Birikorang speaking to the media expressed that though President John Mahama has issued a directive to set aside the first Saturday of every month for clean-up exercise at various district and municipalities across the country.
Yet, getting individuals of Andoe on Saturdays for such exercise appears difficult. Hence, the decision to have the District's clean-up exercise be scheduled on May Day.
He emphasized on the District's decision to single out one community each month to focus the clean-up exercise on, noting that the next exercise will center on another community.
The DCE took the chance to conscientize his constituents on the monthly clean-up exercise which has come to stay and urged all to partake fully.
He further bemoaned the poor sanitation at the Andoe market, following the filth cleared from the center during exercise and implored traders of the market to always clean the area after a long day's trade.
Nana Atta Banafo III, Chief of Assin Andoe and the Adontinhene of the Apimanim Traditional Area after help the DCE to tidy up his community, applauded the exercise with its sheer health benefits, particularly in a period of cholera surge in the Central Region.
