Prof. Michael Amakyi of the Institute for Educational Planning and Administration (IEPA) of the University of Cape Coast (UCC) has implored the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) to above all things, seek to prioritize the welfare of teachers in the country.
Speaking in an interview with Sompa TV reporter Eric Annan, he urged GNAT to make sure that teachers have a better feel of their work by negotiating with government to provide teachers with the necessary resources required.
He added that with GNAT being the mouthpiece of teachers, it should make sure to secure a Minimum Acceptable Requirement for teachers and also see to it that the promotion of teachers are worked on in time, since teachers promotion are often delayed for far too long.
The UCC Professor made this statement as the Guest Speaker at the 7th (54th) quadrennial delegates conference of GNAT-Cape Coast, celebrated on the theme "The Ghana Education Service @50: Achievements, Teacher Motivation, Challenges and the Way Forward."
Isaac Asante Frimpong, the Outgoing GNAT Chairman for Cape Coast in his address to the media, charged the Incoming GNAT Executives not to relent in continuing the good work himself and his Executives have upheld over the years during his reign, particularly with regards to unity.
