In a glorious ceremony held in Dubai on May 26, 2025, Naomi Oyoe Ohene Oti, a distinguished oncology nurse from Ghana, emerged as the winner of the prestigious 2025 Aster Guardians Global Nursing Award, rising above over 100,000 applicants from 199 countries.
She was honoured with a $250,000 cash prize presented by the United Arab Emirates Minister of Tolerance and Coexistence.
Naomi was recognized for her consistent efforts in cancer care, nurse education, and health system reform. Her work has not only transformed oncology nursing in Ghana but also made waves across Africa and globally.
She currently serves as the Nurse Manager at the National Radiotherapy, Oncology and Nuclear Medicine Centre at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital - Ghana’s leading tertiary health facility.
Under her dynamic leadership, Ghana’s oncology nursing landscape has experienced significant progress. She was instrumental in launching training programs in collaboration with international institutions, including the Cross Cancer Institute in Canada.
One of her crowning achievements was her role in developing Ghana’s first postgraduate oncology nursing curriculum in 2015, a landmark initiative that has since trained over 60 oncology nurse specialists and 10 breast care nurses.
Naomi’s influence extends far beyond national borders.
She serves on the education and training committee of the African Organisation for Research and Training in Cancer (AORTIC) and is a co-investigator on a Global Bridges Oncology grant.
Her work with international organizations such as the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) and the International Society of Nurses in Cancer Care (ISNCC) reflects her commitment to culturally sensitive, equitable cancer care throughout the continent.
Despite her global stature, Naomi remains deeply grounded in her values and faith.
In addition to her professional accomplishments, she serves as a Deaconess of The Church of Pentecost - a role she holds with humility and spiritual dedication.
Her recognition at the Aster Guardians Global Nursing Awards not only shines a spotlight on her remarkable contributions but also affirms the vital role of nurses in shaping global health outcomes.
Naomi’s victory is not just a win for Ghana but a triumph for African excellence in global healthcare leadership.
