The District Secretary of the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) in the Asikuma Odoben Brakwa District in the Central Region, Mr. Charles Ewusi Forson has urged government to prioritize the needs of the teachers in the country.
Speaking at the 7th Quadrennial (54th) District GNAT Conference of the Asikuma Odoben Brakwa held in Breman Asikuma, Mr. Ewusi Forson appealed that government should shift some focus on teachers posted at villages to teach, for they go through a lot of difficulties.
He bemoaned that teachers who are posted at rural areas, are often deprived of better sleeping place. Thus, government should fulfill its 20 percent collective agreement meant for such teachers.
The retained Chairperson for GNAT in the Asikuma Odoben Brakwa District, Madam Mercy Ghansah upon her re-election, pledged to empower members of the association through various initiatives.
She further outlined her plans to improve the welfare of teachers in the district by collaborating with traditional leaders in the area to allocate lands to GNAT members in the district to build.
The proposed initiative she said, will allow members pay for these lands through a structured system with less stress.
