Nana Asor Brayie II is not the queen mother of the Sunyani Traditional Area, the Boahen Korkor Royal Family, the mother-gate of Sunyani has said.
According to the Royal family, made up of three gates - Akosuaa Dua, Kwantwiwaa and Nyantakyiwaa gates, it has activated a court process against what they described as unlawful installation of the queen mother, saying until the case was decided on her favour, Nana Brayie II seized to be the queen mother of Sunyani.
“This is because Nana Bosoma Asor Nkrawiri II, the paramount chief of Sunyani Traditional Area unilaterally chose her as his queen, contrary to the demands of the customs and culture of the Nana Boahen Korkor Royal Family”, the family indicated.
Addressing a new conference in Sunyani, the three royal gates emphasised that the ‘supposed queen mother’ had not entered the ‘stool room’ for the necessary customarily rites to be performed to enable her take a “stool name”, and described her installation as taboo.
Flanked by other members of the royal family, Nana Joseph Adjebeng Danquah, the spokesman and the Head of the Nyantakyiwaa gate, said “it is shocking and embarrassing to observe that, even when she has not been accepted as the Omanhemaa of Sunyani, Madam Brayie has begun a very tyrannical rule, which, if not checked, can turn Sunyani upside down”.
“The latest of her unwarranted abuse of power, that has caused an uproar in Sunyani, was ordering some respectable and responsible market women (yam sellers) to lie prostrate before her to apologize for a so-called offense”.
“It is very ironical that this act of disrespect for human dignity, and against women, on top, which is unprecedented in the annals of the Boahen Korkor Royal family, has been committed by an illegitimate queen”, Nana Danquah stated.
He therefore cautioned some of the traditional leaders in Sunyani to desist from encouraging the ‘illegitimate queen mother’ in pursuing her agenda, and called on individuals, institutions and organization “which are dealing or will be dealing with her that she has not got the mandate or capacity of an Omanhemaa”, saying whatever business they transacted with her, they do so at their own risk.
“Had it not been the fact that the Boahen Korkor Royal family is peace loving, some of her provocative actions would have been physically opposed”, Nana Danquah added.
