The charred remains of an 18-year-old young man were discovered after a fierce fire tore through a 10-bedroom house on Saturday (August 6) at Kronum in the Ashanti Region.
The fire is said to have started from a recycling plant installed in the house located at Kronum Botantia Electoral Area in the Suame Municipality.
At least five fire engines were deployed to the scene to battle the blaze which spread to other adjoining structures, including a church.
“The fire service are here without a vehicle. There was no water in their engine when it arrived. The fire has been spreading to other households and power supply has been affected”, a witness told sompaonline.com at the scene.
Meanwhile the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) says some tenants were also displaced as the fire spread to at least three other buildings.
Ashanti Regional Spokesperson for the Ghana National Fire Service, DOIII Peter Osei Addai says investigations have commenced.
“It is a 10-bedroom structure that is used for domestic and a recycling plant. And the direction of the wind and the heat wave also affected three structures. We had one person trapped and his remains have been retrieved… The whole building has been burnt”, the fire spokesperson said.
Meanwhile, Christabel Annor, who first shared the repulsive outbreak of the fire on her school platform in a conversation with Eric Murphy said, the fire started at a slow pace of which the Ghana fire service could have dealt with if they had a well filled water engines when they arrived at the scene.
She described the incident as scary and feared the blaze could have affected her house.
“Investigations have started to ascertain the cause of the fire and hopefully we will know the cause soon, the fire spokesperson assured.
