The national chairman of the National Democratic Congress, Hon Ofosu Ampofo has faulted the leadership of the electoral commission of Ghana in their quest to compulsorily introduce the Ghana Card for the prospective voter register.
In a conversation with Sompa Tv Yaw Boamah on Monday, August 8th, the outspoken chairman shared the view that the NDC will resist any attempt by the electoral commission to forcibly use the Ghana Card as an alternative for the registration exercise.
He maintained that any decision by the EC concerning the Ghana Card as an alternative for registration will be quashed by the NDC since they want to please the government that employed them.
The electoral commission has been engaging stakeholders in order to ensure the yet-to-be-registered voters in the 2024 general election use the Ghana Card as a requisite requirement and has since received widespread criticism from the public.
Meanwhile, the director of Election at the electoral commission of Ghana Dr. Serebour Quarcoe has explained that the decision to demand Ghana Card for registration is meant for only new voters who are turning 18 years.
He, therefore, explained that the E.C has extended the online branch to the National Democratic Party during IPAC meetings but they have failed to attend, adding that since other parties represent the majority, the EC would continue to hold meetings, he told Yaw Boama on Sompa Tv morning show.
