There are things that inspire people to do things that make them happy, variations in preference are many depending on how you want to live your life or do things.
An encounter with an 18 year old Floria Dakorah and 16 year SHS student of Obuase Secondary and Technical, Bridgette Owusuaa Aboagye, both apprentice learning electric welding.
The beautiful story of these youth inspires my write-up to give to offer hope to my readers especially the young ladies.
At the favourite yoko gari (Gobe) joint close to Teraone Media office, I met with these girls who were also in the queue waiting for their turn to buy the delicious but costive gobe while wearing a similar apprentice outfit.
Curiosity they say kills the cat; I got closer to know why they are wearing that outfit and the rationale behind it.
Me: hello girls, what’s up, have you been here for long?
Floria (smiles with a beautiful dimple) hey, we have been here for long it’s almost our turn
Me: alright that’s cool, but aren’t you supposed to be in school by now?
Floria: oh we are in school; we are here to buy food (she points to Bridgette who was calm listening to the conversation)
At this juncture, I decided to engage the two since it was a one way conversation. Turning to Bridgette, I asked her where they came from and their current destination.
She narrated.
We are from Obuase, both of us are electric welding apprentices, my sister here, pointing to Floria, has been in the business for 3 years now and I am just 3 months. We came here (Suame NVTI) for a refresher since at our place (referring to where they understudy as apprentice) we only practice with small metals, but here, you get the chance to work with heavy metals, and this was an initiative by an NGO that is sponsoring us for 2 months, she satated.
The enthusiasm of these young ladies to get a skill in electric welding is beyond imagination. According to them even though their friends are not happy with the profession they have chosen, it has never in any way affected them.
Bridgette is the only daughter to her parents’ whiles floria has 3 other siblings.
On how they have been challenged by their chosen career and relationship, Floria, the eldest among the two stated that even though she has dated before and still speak to the guy; she doesn’t have time like some years back for men.
“I have dated before, but now I don’t see it as a serious one even though we talk on the phone, I am focus on achieving my goal, I have studied this for 3 years, so nothing will stop me, she assured.
Bridgette on her side maintained that she is only 16 and doesn’t think of relationship, but was fast to add that her friends always teases her for being the only girl in the midst of boys.
“They used to make mockery of me, some of them insult me with my personality and skin, but I don’t care, all I want is to learn and become someone in future, I have never dated and I don’t think about that, she concluded.
Some young ladies of today are engaging in anti-social vices on social media platforms, others hooking up with men while others sells their body online, the story of these young ladies should inspires others to emulate.
