Two young men in their thirty’s have reported dead in a ghastly accident that occurred on Tuesday, 13th September 2022, at Sefwi Besibema in the Akontombra district of the Western North Region.

According to an eyewitness, the trailer with registration number GE 4871-X transporting excavator from Sefwi Akontombra towards Sefwi Wiawso, upon reaching Sefwi Besibema, experienced a brake failure and unfortunately ran into more than five stores on the roadside at Sefwi Besibema community.

The report indicates that seven persons were trapped and with the effort of the community, they were rescued but later noticed that two young men died instantly when the excavator fell on them.

The bodies of the deceased have been deposited at Sefwi Wiawso Government Hospital, waiting for identification and autopsy, while the injured persons are receiving treatment.

Speaking to Mr. Kalam Musa, an eyewitness, said the long trailer vehicle failed its brake where some children were playing on the roadside.

Upon sensing danger, the kids gave an alarm that the car had encountered a brake failure and suddenly, the vehicle hit the nearby community pipe and a high-tension pole.

He added that later it was found that seven persons were trapped and after they were rescued, two persons died instantly.

the Assembly Member for Besibema Electoral Area, Hon. Isaac Entse said the incident has destroyed about five stores that belong to petty traders, their tarred road has also deteriorated and the high-tension pole that supplies power from the transformer has been damaged.

Police said, the area is a security prone and have cautioned that traders and vehicular plying the road take extra precautions while investigations are on going.
