The Member of Parliament for Amenfi West Constituency in the Western Region Hon. Eric Afful has called on Ghanaians to vote against all the 80 NPP majority members in parliament for refusing to support vote of censor against the finance minister in a motion moved by the minority caucus in parliament.
Reacting to the stance of the majority caucus in parliament ahead of the voting, the legislator told Omanhene Yaw Adu Boakye on sompa Tv, on Thursday 10 November, 2022 that he is shocked at the level or hypocrisy exhibited by the same members of parliament who claim to have consulted their constituents before calling the head of the finance minister.
He told the host that he will personally lead a campaign for electorates to vote against all the 80 MPS who held the press conference and now turning their back against the motion.
“They told us that they consulted their constituents before they call for the finance minister’s dismissal, did they consult their constituents that they are reversing what they told them to do? We have been elected to represent these people in Parliament, to speak on their behalf, to take decisions on their behalf, to seek their welfare, and if we cannot do that then why are we here?
Asked further by the host on what the majority leader said on the abuse of the fundamental human right against the finance minister, he said that , it’s a defensive mechanism been deployed by the minister in charge of government business.
According to him article 82 clauses 1 of the 1992 constitution is clear on the numbers needed for motion of censure to be accepted.
“We only need “two thirds” if the members in parliament, the article 82:1 is clear, 2/3 of 275 is 183, that’s what we need, we don’t need any further explanation anywhere from anyone, the censure must be voted for. He said.
