A former Deputy General Secretary of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) Nana Obiri Boahene has insisted on the Special Prosecutor Mr. Kissi Agyabeng to as a matter of urgency tender his resignation to the President, Nana Addo Danquah Akuffo Addo if indeed he is a man of principle.
Nana Obiri Boahene who sounded the warning call during an interview with a Kumasi based SOMPA FM on Thursday January 5 2023, said the recent comments by the Special Prosecutor in an interview with the Multimedia group that Ghana was ready to fight corruption should have been an enough grounds for him to resign his position.
“Mr. Martin Amidu, the first appointee to the office resigned in late November 2021 after he equally cried of bad conditions of office and the government continuous and deliberate efforts to frustrate his quest to fighting corruption. Why can’t he do same if he is really a principle man”, he queried.
The outspoken former deputy secretary intimated that the comments by the special prosecutor has bastardize his office and clearly makes it ridiculous to the larger public any plans put forth in fighting corruption.
“He assured Ghanaians especially the NPP fraternity that there could be other better managers of the office if he is fired or he chooses to resign from post.”
The Office of the Special Prosecutor in its half year report, enlisted no less than 132 suspected corruption and corruption-related offences which are at various levels of investigations and consideration. The OSP lists some of the cases to involve former Minister of State at the Finance Ministry, Charles Adu Boahen, whose case was referred for investigation by President Akufo-Addo following Tiger Eye PI’s documentary Galamsey Economy; as well as a probe into the estate of the late New Patriotic Party kingpin, Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie, aka Sir John, which is alleged to contain the controversial bequeathing of portions of state lands at the Achimota Forest in Accra to his family members.
Nana Obiri Boahene who is the lead Counsel for the late Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie’s family said the case was already at the court after the Office of the Special Prosecutor sought to appeal an earlier ruling in their favour.
