The worse management of the economy since independence – Kwame Pianim
Mr. Andrews Kwame Pianim, Ghanaian financier and a former government official has told Ghanaians that the finance minister, Ken Ofori Atta cannot be trusted to lead the country's domestic debt exchange programme (DDEP).
Having previously said he's not contributing a pesewa to the DDEP because it was led by a finance minister who led Ghana into the gutters, he told Omanhene on the Sompa Tv morning show on Friday 13th January 2023, that Ghana has never experienced such a woeful performance from any financial minister since independence.
According to Mr. Pianim, the Finance Ministry has jeopardized the trust Ghanaian people have in the economic management of the country.
“It's no longer safe to loan the government, as a pensioner, the money you keep in the government coffers for your upkeep shouldn't be a gamble, you are sure of the safety of your money but on December 19th last year, the finance minister told us that, the loan we are loaning the government is like loaning Kwame Pianim, that's the level of the mess we find ourselves now and this is what Ghanaians must think about, he said.
He stressed that the obstinacy of the president has brought all these mishaps on Ghanaians citing that if the finance minister has given the necessary support to ministries like the Agric, planting for food and jobs for instance could have saved Ghanaians from this mess.
Mr. Pianim said the government has not been smart about the management of the economic hardship.
“Ghana has not experienced an earthquake or any natural disaster like Pakistan but the level of obstinacy of the president has brought us here, you don't care about the oversize of your government, fuel hikes, or poor school feeding implementation, even when a section of parliamentarians called for the sacking of Ofori Atta, this president gave death ears to the concerns of the people, he added.
Mr. Pianim said the economy is defaulting because we are unable to manage the loans to their fullest implementation and therefore called for a change.
He said since the president is not burdened with tax paying that the average Ghanaian pay, he sits unconcerned about the hardship on Ghanaians.
According to Mr. Painim, we are in democratic governance and that demands that we hold whoever is responsible for the reckless management of the economy accountable.
