The Flagbearer Hopeful for the National Democratic Congress, Oheneba Kojo Bonsu, has said the filing fee for the Flagbearer portfolio is too exorbitant.
He said for a social democratic party like the NDC, it's unacceptable to pay such a huge amount for a flagbearership slot.
“For a social democratic party like the NDC, the fee is too much, in a sense that things are hard these days in Ghana, there's no money in the system so it makes things tough, party executives are also complaining there's no money for the elections process so even though it's too much, but what can you say?, he told Omanhene.
However, he said he is willing to pay the amount involved and filed for his nomination.
The former mayor of Kumasi said he has started his campaign, admitting his electoral college is minimal but working assiduously with his team to be crowned victorious on Election day.
Former President, John Mahama, Mr. Kwabena Duffour, and Oheneba Kojo Bonsu are poised to contest the flagbearer position in the NDC.
The decision by the National Executive at the party's Functional meeting on Thursday, January 5th, 2023 pegged the fees for the Flagbearer elections at 550,000 cedis.
A breakdown figure reveals that the forms for the presidency will be sold at 50,000 with a filing fee of 500,000 while the parliamentary form will cost 5,000 with and filing fee of 40, 000.
