Residents of Assin North Constituency in the Central Region have shared divergent views over the Supreme Court ruling, ordering parliament to expunge James Gyakye Quayson's name from its records as a Member of Parliament (MP).
Speaking in an interview to Sompa TV/FM's Eric Annan, some residents whose faces depicted sadness, expressed dissatisfaction over the supreme court ruling, saying the constituency's lack of representation in parliament has already affected its development as the ruling will further deteriorate things.
They remarked Gyakye Quayson prior to the supreme court ruling to promise unemployed youths of the constituency jobs, which they highly expected but for the hope crashing verdict by the supreme court.
Others disclosed the embattled MP had helped them get enrolled into apprenticeship which is helping them build a future hence can't accept the supreme court decision but have encouraged Gyakye Quayson contest in the next election for they will massively vote him back to be their MP.
Moreover, other natives of the constituency recounted, the law has spoken and thereby have no option but to accept it in good faith.
Stephen Asamoah, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Constituency Secretary in Assin North hailed the Supreme Court’s declaration to declare the Assin North 2020 parliamentary election null and void.
According to him, the decision by the country's apex court of law is a vindication of the NPP party’s long-held position that Mr. Gyakye Quayson isn't qualified to be an MP since he has dual citizenship before the polls.
He added that his outfit is ever ready to bring up a qualified person for the next election to help accelerate development in the area.
