The National Democratic Congress (NDC) leader for the 2024 general elections Mr. John Dramani Mahama has observed that due to the current deteriorated economic conditions prevailing, the country has lost her place as the best destination in doing business in the West African sub-region.
According to former President Mahama, the recent increase in taxations due to the International Monetary Fund’s loan facility and the yet to be introduced quarterly increase in the utility tariffs are among other factors that have created an unfavourable environment for the business community both in Ghana and Africa.
Speaking at the 7th 2023 Ghana CEOs Summit and Expo on Monday May 22 at the Kempinski hotel in Accra, he espoused that "doing business in the country today has become very difficult since the economic management team led by the Vice President has failed to live up to expectation considering the bragging they made whilst in opposition."
He told the agitated Chief Executive Officers (CEOs) at the Summit, “as captains of the industry you know that Ghana has lost a pride of place in doing business in West Africa." "The flowers that attracted you to set up your businesses in Ghana are gradually withering. Many of your colleague CEOs have shut down their shops and left the shores while several others have moved their headquarters and staffs."
The 2023 Ghana CEO Summit brought together stakeholders, including the Chief Executive Officers (CEO) Network of Ghana, to restore Ghana’s economy and strive for sustainable economic sovereignty.
