The Electoral Commission organized the election following the passing of the Member of Parliament for Kumawu, Philip Basoah on Mach 28.
After the EC declared Ernest Yaw Anim as MP-elect of the Kumawu constituency, members and executives of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) were captured in a video jubilating and hailing one other for the immense effort channeled into the elections.
Speaking to the MP-Elect, Ernest Yaw Anim, he maintained that the victory was a strong sign that the NPP can break the 8 in the upcoming 2024 general elections. Meanwhile, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate, Kwasi Amankwah says he is saddened by the votes buying menace that punctured the beauty of the elections. He disclosed that as some point in time some student voters asked him pay money before they could vote for him since the NPP had already paid something to them.
The NDC National Chairman, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah revealed his satisfaction with the conduct of the overall elections despite reports of vote-buying allegations involving some agents of the ruling New Patriotic Party. “We’ve gone round several polling stations and I think that so far so good. We encountered only one breach of peace but it was brought under control so I think so far so good.” He stated.
