Former President, John Dramani Mahama has tasked the people of Assin North to discard the New Patriotic Party's (NPP) circulated claim to jail, James Gyakye Quayson should he eventually win the area's ensuing by-election.
Gyakye Quayson, since his election as MP of the Assin North Constituency has over two years now battle criminal charges for holding dual citizenship with Ghana and Canada respectively.
According to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) 2024 flagbearer, the embattled MP has committed no atrocity to contest in the Assin North by-election for him to be jailed.
John Mahama made this statement in a campaign visit to the Chiefs and Queens of Assin Dansame on Saturday, June 17 on his two day tour to the Assin North Constituency prior to its by-election, scheduled to hold on Tuesday, June 27, 2023.
He reiterated, the NPP's claim to convict Gyakye Quayson holds no water as he quizzed to find out the outcome of the NPP's case leveled against Nana Appiah Mensah (NAM 1) some six (6) years back that cost innocent Ghanaians to lose huge sums of money.
James Gyakye Quayson in his address noted to have returned from Canada for the liberation of Assin North youths who he usually feels sorry for whenever he comes in contact with them following the deprived stated they find themselves.
National Communications Officer for the NDC, Sammy Gyamfi accounted that Assin North is blessed to have someone like Gyakye Quayson who through which the constituency is gradually witnessing the developmental projects it desired prior to the by-election.
