Vice President and flagbearer hopeful for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has as part of government's road construction project on Friday, June 23 commissioned a 31.2km Assin Fosu- Assin Praso road stretch at Assin Praso in the Central Region.
The commissioned road project forms part of government's N8 project and emerges as second phase to the 98km road network which spans from Assin Praso to Yamoransa.
Sod cutting for the project was initially scheduled to come off on 2020 but got truncated due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The road network as part of its traveling benefits, links Awianwanta in the Ashanti Region to Yamoransa in the Central Region, hence seizes to transport the people of both the Western and Central Regions to the Ashanti Region and the Northern part of Ghana as well as to neighboring countries.
Commissioning of the grand road project, witnessed party dignitries like Hon. Yaw Osafo Marfo, Special Adviser to the president, the Majority Leader and MP for Suame Constituency, Hon. Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu, Hon. Justina Marigold Assan, the Central Regional Minister, Hon. Stephen Asamoah Boateng, the Minister for Chieftaincy, the Minister for Roads and Highways, Hon. Kwesi Amoako Atta among others all trooped in to grace the occasion.
Dr. Bamumia at the event eulogized that the construction of the commissioned project appears a great step in the development of the road network in the country.
He highlighted that the road will seize to enhance the travel times of communities along the road like Assin Praso, Assin Breku, Assin Akonfudi, Assin Brofoyedru, Assin Nyankomasi as well as Assin Fosu.
The Veep added that the construction of the Assin Praso-Assin Fosu road was made possible through a grant from the government and people of Japan at a cost of ¥6.58 billion (equivalent to $58m) having shown his outmost appreciation to the Japanese government for its magnanimous support.
He promised that government will do its possible best to secure a grant to complete the remaining 67km stretch from Assin Fosu to Yamoransa.
Hon. Kwesi Amoako Atta, the Roads and Highways Minister emphasized that the objective of the commissioned Assin Praso-Assin North road is to secure a smooth and safe road traffic through the rehabilitation of a south section of the national L8 track road in the Central Region.
He stressed that the technology used in constructing the road, in as much as it appears an ultramodern technology is environmentally friendly as well.
