The Parliamentary primaries of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) would be held in only four (4) constituencies in the Bono region, the director of election and research of the party has stated.
Mr. Henry Osei Karikari, the Bono regional election director speaking to Nana Kwame Owusu Nkwantabisa, host of Sompa FM in Sunyani Ade Akyea Abiaa show said the party has six (6) out of twelve (12) sitting members of Parliament.
However, Sunyani East has outstanding issues to be resolved hence they would not take part in the Saturday January 27 primaries.
The election, according to Mr Karikari, would be held in the Sunyani West, Dormaa Central, Berekum West and Berekum East constituencies.
There would be popular acclamation in the Dormaa East constituency as the incumbent MP, Hon Paul Twum Barima had no one picking form to contest him.
Mr. Karikari noted the election and its related matters have been trusted into the hands of the Electoral commission (EC) whilst all security matters has been handed to the Ghana Police Service.
Delegates of the governing New Patriotic Party will go to the polls on January 27, 2024, to select parliamentary candidates to represent the party in various constituencies ahead of the general elections in December.
The party has already selected parliamentary candidates in constituencies where it does not have sitting MPs, known in political parlance as orphan constituencies.
It has subsequently scheduled January 27 as the date for organizing primaries in constituencies it won during the 2020 polls.
While a number of candidates have been cleared for the primaries, 33 sitting MPs are contesting the polls unopposed.
