The Member of Parliament for Mfantseman Constituency in the Central Region, Hon. Ophelia Mensah Hayford has adopted a 3-day-old baby boy delivered by a mentally challenged mother at School Kessim, a suburb of Mankessim.
The adorable baby boy delivered on Sunday, January 28, 2024, was spotted together with the mother in an uncompleted building by a good samaritan who rushed to the scene to offer help by saving the baby and mother sail through a safe delivery.
Madam Vivian Ewusi, the good samaritan in an interview with Sompa News Eric Annan narrated to have been informed of the incident by her daughter who heard the cry of a new born baby around the neighborhood which had her rush to the scene to see things for herself.
She recounted to have witnessed the mentally challenged mother tie the umbilical cord joining her and the baby around the boy's neck upon arriving at the scene to behold the mentally incapacitated mother go through a successful delivery by herself.
The magnanimous lady after coming to the rescue of the baby and his mother, then reported the issue to the Mankessim Police Station who directed her to send both the baby and mother to the hospital for medical assessment which she did by sending them to the Mercy Women's Catholic Hospital in Mankessim.
She then informed the MP of the incident which occured a few metres away from her residence who hastily showed up at the hospital to meet management of the medical facility and officers of the municipality's Social Welfare to brainstorm on the requisite procedure to fellow to see her adopt the innocent baby and how best she can be of help to the mentally distorted mother.
Assemblyman for New Nkusukum Electoral Area, Hon. Ali Abubabur Amoah having identified the mentally challenged mother to be an unknown resident of the area, shared his frustration on the increasing number of mad persons seen on the streets of the area which he suspect to be facilitated by psychiatric hospitals within the region.
The mentally derailed mother is currently on admission at the Mercy Women's Catholic Hospital as nurses continue to monitor her condition after her birth.
