The 2020 running mate and a potential 2024 running mate for the National Democratic Congress, Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang has shared worry over the calculated effort to overlook the immense contributions women in Ghana have offered to the development of the country.
According to her, should women in the country be recognized for every positive effort undertaken, will propel others to give their all to the growth of Ghana, having had women in the country often neglected to be acknowledged.
She said this in an interaction with the media following a program organized by Friedrich Ebert Stiftung- Ghana to commensurate the International Women's Day, earmarked on Tuesday, March 5, 2024 at the University of Cape Coast on the theme, "Inspiring Social and Economic Inclusion: Women Thriving in the 24-hour Economy." An event which saw the 2020 NDC running mate grace the occasion as the guest speaker.
Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang bemoaned the fact that Ghana's independence day celebration is occasionally discussed as if women in the country have contributed nothing to the success story of the state.
She, therefore, encouraged the need for all to put hands on deck to salvage Ghana from its present predicament which requires the conscious effort of all and sundry.
The Member of Parliament for Cape Coast North Constituency, Hon. Kwamena Minta Nyarku who having lauded the effort of appreciating the contribution of women globally, admonished the idea behind acknowledging the toils of women towards development, emerges as a call for a sense of unity where the Ghanaian citizenry can put its resources together to ensure Ghana move to the very high level anticipated.
Faustina Naa Namley Lamptey, the Central Regional NDC Women's Organizer on her account, compelled women in the country never to lose focus on whatever they strive to achieve by encouraging themselves and to seek advise from the appropriate quarters.
