Vociferous National Communication team member of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) Mr. Alexander Kwaku Asafo Agyei has observed that the President, Nana Akuffo Addo could be the first to face prosecution after leaving office in 2025 as a former president.
Speaking to SOMPA NEWS, Kwaku Asafo Agyei who mentioned Lawyer Martin Kpebu as one of the first Ghanaian to cite President Akuffo Addo for court after his tenure said it behooves on the President to stop wobbling in such tendencies.
According to him, President Akuffo Addo has dabbled in undemocratic decisions and questionable comments that frown on our constitution since assumption in office that could compel a Ghanaian citizen to drag him to court after serving his term as a President.
He cited the appointment of Dr. Peter Appiahene, a known NPP communicator to the position as the deputy director of I.T. at the Electoral Commission as very unfortunate to the growth of our democracy as a country, his comments of not ready to hand over power to John Mahama if the NPP loses the 2024 elections and his resolve to ensure Dr. Bawumia wins the 2024 general elections as very worrying trends.
He indicated that the sensitive nature of the I.T. department of the EC should not be given to a known political activist noted for the defense of the NPP and condemnation of the NDC at the various platforms in the Bono regions in particular prior to his appointment. He cited that the NDC through the National Chairman of the party wrote to the members of the Council of State to ask them if there were aware but they confirmed knowledge of the appointment through the consultations with the President.
Mr. Alexander Kwaku Asafo Agyei further advised Dr. Peter Appiahene to resign from the position to enable integrity prevail at the Commission adding that the current situation could make the opposition parties including the NDC raise qualm with the slightest issue the characterize the operation of the Commission.
According to Asafo Agyei, a recent national Security investigations of the country’s security pointed out that the 2024 general elections could plunge Ghana into instability and the President as the Commander in Chief of the Ghana Armed Forces must be aware of the consequences of his comments in relation to Ghana’s security ahead of the elections.
Kwaku Asafo Agyei asked the President to take a cue from the recent interview granted by a former member of the PNDC, Sergeant Alolga Akata Pore to the effect that the must refrain from such utterances that could throw Ghana into instability.
He pleaded to Ghanaians of solemn reputation to come out and speak against some of the comments and actions of the President if we want to continue to consolidate the gains of our democracy under this forth republic.
