Parliament has adjourned sine die following a highly productive third meeting of its fourth session, during which several important bills were approved.
The house passed the Affirmative Action, Gender Equity Bill 2024, the Ghana Shippers Authority Bill 2024, and the National Service Authority Bill 2024, among others.
The session also included a presentation by Minister for Finance Dr. Mohammed Amin Adam, who delivered the 2024 Mid-Year Budget Review to Parliament.
Speaker Alban Bagbin adjourned the house indefinitely on Tuesday, 30 July 2024, after a voice vote saw the minority caucus successfully block the approval of a USD250 million loan facility intended for the Ghana Energy Sector Recovery Programme.
The adjournment has sparked controversy, with Majority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin criticising the Speaker's unilateral decision.
He asserted that the majority caucus would take steps to recall Parliament in accordance with the law.
"We do not agree with the Speaker’s decision to adjourn the house indefinitely. We will take the necessary steps to ensure that Parliament is recalled to continue its work,” Mr. Afenyo-Markin noted.
