The Minister for Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Hon. Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey has paid a working visit to Mauritius where she held discussions, with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration and International Trade of the Republic of Mauritius, Hon. Maneesh Gobin on key bilateral issues and explore avenues for enhanced cooperation between the two countries.
The meeting, which was held on Thursday, 8th August, 2024 marked a new chapter in the long-standing relationship between Ghana and Mauritius.
During the discussions, both Ministers reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening economic, cultural, and political ties.
They emphasised the importance of mutual support in international fora and explored opportunities for collaboration in trade, education, aviation and tourism.
A key outcome of the discussions was a potential agreement on circular migration between Ghana and Mauritius, a concept where workers move back and forth between two countries for employment, bringing mutual benefits to both economies.
Both Ministers recognised the potential of this cooperation to address labour shortages, enhance skills development, and improve the livelihoods of citizens in both countries.
They expressed optimism that the agreement would not only strengthen economic ties but also promote cultural exchange and mutual understanding.
