Mr. Yaw Dabie Appiah Mensah, a leading member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Bono Region says National Democratic Congress (NDC) has plans to amend and increase the term of office of the presidency.
But, he cautioned any attempt by any NDC government to do so would plunge the country into chaos, and disturb the prevailing national peace and stability.
“From his political utterances, you can easily deduce that the former President John Dramani Mahama is seriously desperate for another political power to amend certain portions of the constitutions that will enable him and his government to extend their term office”, Mr. Mensah stated.
In an interview with Sompa FM at Odumase in the Sunyani West Municipality on Monday, Mr. Mensah, a former NPP Regional Organiser in the then Brong-Ahafo Region said “Mr. Mahama and his NDC cohorts are not ready to help solve our national problems”.
Mr. Mahama has had the opportunity to serve as the Vice-President and the President of our nation, but his government failed abysmally. His incompetency and mismanagement of the economy has now created huge problems for the NPP government”, Mr. Mensah added.
On the fortunes of the NPP in Election 2024, Mr. Mensah said party unity and hard work remained prerequisite, and advised the party to bury unnecessary factionalism that could narrow the NPP fortunes and reduce its votes.
“Though our great party cherishes internal democracy, we must try, vote and elect a presidential candidate who can widen our voter margin in Election 2024. In fact, from our assessment the NPP political chances are brighter with the Vice President Alhaji Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia as our Election 2024 Presidential Candidate”, he stated.
"The Vice President was able to help the party to increase its parliamentary seats in the Northern region from four seats in 2008 to 10 seats in 2012, 12 seats in 2016 and 12 seats in 2020”, Mr. Mensah stated.
