Cape Coast South MP Pledges Support For Sports Development after Sod-Cutting for Astroturf Construction

‎The Member of Parliament for Cape Coast South Constituency in the Central Region and Deputy Majority Leader of Parliament, Hon. George Kweku Ricketts-Hagan, has pledged his support for sports development in his constituency.

‎Hon. Ricketts-Hagan made the pledge at the sod-cutting ceremony for the construction of a 200-seater capacity Astroturf project at Philip Quaicoe, a suburb of the Cape Coast South Constituency.

‎

‎According to him, the provision of a modern sports infrastructure is key to unearthing and nurturing talents among the youth, while also promoting healthy living and social cohesion.

‎

‎He noted that sports development remains a priority on his agenda and assured residents of his continuous commitment to lacing the constituency with more sporting facilities.

‎

‎The MP added that the Astroturf project, when completed, will serve as a major boost to youth development and create a conducive environment for sporting activities in the area.

‎

‎The Mayor of the Cape Coast Metropolitan Assembly, Hon. George Justice Arthur, also assured the gathering that the leadership of Cape Coast is determined to develop the various football teams in the area to reach the highest football discipline in Ghana football.

‎

‎According to him, the leadership of Cape Coast recognizes the crucial role of football in youth development and social cohesion, noting that historic clubs such as Cape Coast Abusua Dwarfs and Venomous Vipers deserves the needed support to reclaim their lost glory.

‎

‎He emphasized that plans are underway to provide the necessary support, including infrastructure and motivation, to enable the teams compete at the highest level of Ghana football and the city to get the national team (Black Stars) call-ups.

‎

‎Mr. Christian Coleman of Wembley Sports Construction Company Limited, the contractor in charge of the construction of the Astro Turf, revealed details of the project.

‎

‎According to him, the project comprises of an artificial football pitch, fencing, floodlights and a spectator stand with a 200-seater capacity.

‎

‎He disclosed that the duration for the construction is six (6) months and is expected to be completed on schedule.

‎

‎Mr. Coleman stated that the project is estimated at approximately GH¢7 million, with the source of funding from the Member of Parliament for Cape Coast South, Hon. George Kweku Ricketts-Hagan.
