Cape Coast Fast Becoming Lawless City: Oguaa Omanhene Bans Fancy Dress Float After 7pm, Threatens Arrest of Band Participants After Midnight

The Oguaa Omanhene and Council of State Member, Osabarimba Dr. Kwesi Atta ll, has expressed concern over what he describes as growing disregard for law and order in Cape Coast, warning that the city risks becoming increasingly lawless if residents and organisers of public activities fail to respect established rules and directives.

‎Against this backdrop, the traditional ruler has directed fancy dress activities within the Oguaa Traditional Area to end their float by 7:00pm, while warning that participants who continue with band activities after midnight risk facing police arrest.

‎The Oguaa Omanhene speaking at the unveiling of his monumental statue at Petro Roundabout in Cape Coast on Friday, 4th September, 2026, he lamented what he perceives as a growing culture of disregard for regulations in the metropolis.

‎The directive is aimed at restoring discipline during public festivities and ensuring that cultural celebrations do not undermine public order, security and the wellbeing of residents.
‎
‎He expressed concern that some residents and groups increasingly act as though established laws and directives do not apply to them, a situation he said could gradually erode respect for authority and create difficulties for maintaining peace and order.
‎
‎He therefore called for a collective effort by traditional authorities, the Metropolitan Assembly, security agencies, event organisers and residents to restore discipline in the city.

‎According to him, the enforcement of rules should not be interpreted as an attempt to prevent people from enjoying themselves but rather as a necessary measure to protect the interests of the wider community.

‎Lawyer Charles Kojo Walker, Founder of Walker Youth Empowerment Foundation and Lead Convener of FanteFest who facilitated construction of the statue of the Cape Coast Chief, expressed gladness towards the Oguaa Omanhen for his great contributions to the development of the city.
‎
‎He emphasized that as part of plans to honour the Omanhen, there is a plan to gift him a brand new saloon car at the one-year anniversary celebration of the statue erected to honour him.
