New media use receives varied opinions from Sunyani residents

The growing use of new media has received varied opinions from residents in Sunyani, the Bono Regional capital.

While some users admitted enormous opportunities in social media, others called on the government to implement realistic interventions to control its unproductive and excessive use among the younger generation.

Speaking in a random interview, the residents expressed concern about the abuse of privacy and spread of indecent contents in new media.

Mr Charles Sarpong, a Tutor at the Sunyani Seventh Day Adventist (SDA) Senior High School noted that new media had made life easier and comfortable, however, it was also harming society.

Mr Francis Appiah-Kubi, a student of Berekum College of Education noted that new media platforms like TikTok, Instagram and YouTube had helped many people access gainful employment and promoted business growth.

For Justice Atakora, though new media had opportunities, it was also time consuming, and urged users to the various platforms for productive activities.
