Policy analyst Smith Boahen justifies anticipated hike in fuel prices

Research and Policy Analyst, Mr Smith Boahen has justified that recent trend in crude oil production has informed a projected increment in fuel prices in the country.

His comments come at the wake the Chamber of Petroleum Consumers (COPEC) pronouncement of anticipated increment in the prices of petroleum products in the country.

According to COPEC, the price of petrol is expected to rise to GHC16.26 per litre with that of diesel anticipating to hit GHC19.07 per litre on Wednesday, September 16, 2026.

Speaking to Ama Konadu on the Sunyani-based Sompa FM "Adea Akyi Abia" morning show, Mr Boahen expressed worry that crude oil prices had increased by

7.75 US dollars per barrel.

He indicated that any moment refinery companies bought crude at a higher price, it directly affected the price of fuel.

Mr Boahen said the National Petroleum Authority (NPA) was yet to set the prices for petrol and diesel in the country.
