Traders at the Sunyani "Masom Masom" market has taken a swipe at Dr Albert Agbi, a physician specialist on his pronouncement about the consumption of salted fish, known in the Ghanaian local parlance as "Momone and Koobi".
According to Dr Agbi, also a cardiologist at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, the high consumption of "Momone and Koobi" could increase the risk of hypertension.
Reacting, the traders condemned the Dr Agbi's comments, describing it as baseless and unfounded.
In an interview with Sompa FM, Madam Mawusi Akorli, a trader noted that: "We have been consuming Momone and Koobi since time immemorial with experiencing any health complications and hazards"
Mad Esther Serwaa, another trader noted that: "Our forefathers even consumed it more than our generation, however they lived long lives than even our generation".
Mad Doris Ampratwum, a shop keeper however, noted that because they were salty, she agreed with Dr Agbi's advice that high consumption of the Momone and Koobi could lead to hypertension.
