Aggrieved youth of Tanoso in the Tano North Municipality of the Ahafo Region has called for the prosecution of Nana Amoako, the Ankobeahene of Tanoso for his alleged involvement in illegal mining in the area.
Their call followed the arrest of the chief for engaging in galamsey around the Tano River course in the area.
Police picked Nana Amoako on Sunday August 16 August, 2026 and retrieved a Kia vehicle from his residence carrying some materials suspected to be gold dust.
Addressing a news conference at Tanoso, Mr Abdul Razack Iddris, the spokesperson for the youth noted that prosecuting the chief would serve as deterrent to like-minded others who were polluting the Tano River due to illegal mining.
Mr Iddris said the youth remained dedicated to support the fight against galamsey around the Tano River course and warned those involved in the menace to stop or face the anger of the youth.
