Ghana and South Korea traded blows in a pulsating 3-2 tie in Education City stadium on Monday. The result leaves Ghana at the top of Group H with 3 points from two games; a 2-3 loss to Portugal on Friday and a win Friday would give the Ghanaians sole possession of the top spot if Portugal fails to win their subsequent matches.
After a torpid first half of inpatient Ghana possession and quick Korean counterattacks, the game sprang to life in the 24th minute, when Salisu capped a long run to head home and deflected Dede Ayew's touch.
Andre Ayew rose above a static Korean defense to head past the goalkeeper but luck eluded him as Mohammed Salisu's header find the back of the net.
The Black Stars scored their 2nd goal in the 34 minutes after Jordan Ayew broke up some sloppy Korean play in their midfield to send a pass to Mohammed Kudus. The striker headed home for Ghana’s second goal.
They continued until Referee Anthony Tailor whistled for the end of the first half.
The Koreans resume the second half with intensity and had an ace up their sleeve: the veteran striker Cho gue-sung headed home in the 54th minute for a consolation.
The Koreans leveled against the run of play in 3 minutes when won Cho gue-sung headed home a cross from Jin-Su Kim.
The goal was Korea 2nd headed goal in World Cup finals play, making history with that.
Both teams had chances in a frenetic finale, but neither could provide a winner until the 68th minute when Mohammed Kudus scored from the carpet against Inaki Williams's failure to tap in. The result left Ghana with 3 points and Ghana is still alive in Group H.
Ghana now faces Uruguay on Friday in the Education City Stadium.
A win for Ghana will qualify the black stars for the round of 16th in the ongoing tournament.
