Bulgarian-based Ghanaian footballer, Bernard Tekpetey who plays for FC Ludogorets Razgrad says he was shocked to have not been included in the 52-man squad shortlisted for Black Stars ahead of the Qatar 2022 world cup.
In an interview with sompa sports, he said, he was doing everything possible to be shortlisted but it was rather unfortunate he was not called.
According to him, he trained and perform well at his club hoping to be called into the team however, he feels it all bows to the decision of the coach and the choice of the squad he wanted.
“I was training and playing well that I need to be called into the national team but I tell myself always you cannot tell the best type of players the coach wanted to work with, so I told myself that I need to add up my game and work very hard because I feel like I deserve to be there but maybe a situation or something was going on that prevented me to be there, what can I do, just work hard and wait for the appointed time,” he said.
He exclusively told the host that the Bulgarian Football Federation has discussed with him a possible Nationality switch so he can play for the national team but told them a decision will be made after the World cup.
“Yes, we have discussed that but I told them to wait until after the world cup, but once am from Ghana, I would like to play for Ghana” he confirmed.
Bernard Tekpetey was named the best foreign player in the Bulgarian Parva Liga following his sparkling performances last season, commenting on the award, he said, he was delighted to have been named the best foreign player.
“I was really glad, we have a lot of foreign players playing, and the five people I competed with were equally good but I don't know the process of awarding the award, I had a great season and felt proud of myself, it also means my hard work and education were also recognized.
He was optimistic God will look at what Christian Atsu has done for people and let him survive what he is going through.
“I left Turkey last week, and when the news broke I felt bad, but I believe God will take care of him and let him live because he has done a lot of humanitarian jobs.
This guy has a kind heart ‘ trust me” my prayer and hope was for him to be found, and I hope his family and friends don't give up on him, I know there will be good news, and I hope he plays again, he concluded.
