Stephen Appiah, a former kingpin of the senior national team says Ghana’s football legends home, and abroad are ready to support, build a formidable team and ignite the playing spirit of the Black Stars.
The former striker said he was extremely unhappy that “legend don’t have the opportunity to lead our football”, stressing “I am optimistic one of our football legends will lead Ghana’s football one day”.
Speaking in an interview with Kwasi Atta Twum Barima, host of Sompa 98.9FM Sports in Sunyani, the football ace said “nowadays football is run by footballers”, and added “it’s not only about the grammar”.
“I am ready to support any legend who might have the opportunity to lead our national team. In fact, if the coin falls on me, I will do so with might and strength. We have all played for the team and we are ready to build it”, he stated.
Appiah said he sacrificed and once paid “wining bonuses for colleagues in the national team. So, if you see things going on like this, you then asked yourself why did you spend”.
“There was a time when nobody was ready to come and play for the national team, so I used my own money to pay for their flight tickets”, he stated.
Notwithstanding, the former striker said he was hopeful and believed things could turn around one day to “ignite the playing spirit of the Black Stars”.
