Bofoakwa Tano will play in the 2023/2024 betPawa Ghana Premier League season for the first time after beating Eleven Wonders 7-6 on penalties in their Division One Zone-One League playoff match at the Accra Sports Stadium on Monday, May 30, 2023.
The victory is a big one for the Sunyani-based club after their sixteen years of absence in Ghana’s top-flight league.
Leslie Aryeetey calmly converted a spot kick early in the game, after Eleven Wonders goalkeepers fouled Bofoakwa’s striker in the 18-yard box to give Bofoakwa the advantage just seven minutes after the start of the match.
Bofoakwa got a second goal on the 26th-minute mark but was disallowed after the flag went up for offside.
A second-half equalizer from Zakaria Osman cancelled Boafoakwa’s lead to restore hope for Eleven Wonders.
Although both teams continued to produce opportunities, the game ended in a draw after 90 minutes, forcing extra time.
After the extra time had no goal to separate both sides, the tie had to be decided on penalties.
Bofoakwa however, emerged as victors after scoring seven against six from Eleven Wonders, joining Hearts of Lions and Nations FC who have already qualified.
