President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has given the national football team, the Black Stars, a morale boost ahead of their departure to Ivory Coast for the 2024 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
The President hosted a special send-off party for the team in Kumasi, where Afro-Dancehall superstar Stonebwoy entertained the players.
During the farewell dinner, President Akufo-Addo charged the Black Stars to deliver their best performance in Ivory Coast and bring home the coveted trophy, ending the country’s 42-year wait for a fifth AFCON title.
The president emphasised the significance of the tournament and expressed confidence in the team's ability to making Ghana proud.
All 27 players invited to the national team, including Mohammed Kudus, were present at the event.
The Black Stars concluded their pre-AFCON preparations with a friendly match against Namibia on Monday, 8 January 2024. It ended a goalless draw.
The team is scheduled to depart for Abidjan, Ivory Coast, on Wednesday, 10 January, in preparation for their Group B opener against Cape Verde on Sunday.
In addition to Cape Verde, Ghana will face tough opponents Egypt and Mozambique in the group stage of the competition.
