Former Director of Communications at the Ghana Football Association, Ibrahim Sannie Daara, has revealed that Otto Addo drove for over six hours to go to France and explain to Andre Ayew why he won’t be in his squad for the June 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
The 34-year-old was the biggest name missing from Otto Addo’s squad announced on Wednesday for the games against the Central African Republic and Mali.
Speaking on a Joy Sports Twitter Space, the experienced media practitioner said leaving Andre Ayew out of the squad is a statement about how much Otto Addo wants to work with a young squad.
“Otto drove over six hours to go to France to speak with Andre about his decision to leave him out from the squad,” Sannie Daara said.
“So that shows that, you know, he wants to pursue this vision of having new and younger players in the team that can serve the country perhaps for 12 years and more.”
Ghana will face Mali in the third round of qualifying for the 2026 World Cup on Thursday in Bamako before taking on the Central African Republic four days later in Kumasi.
Ghana currently sits fourth in Group I with three points, three behind leaders Comoros.
