The Formal Captain of the Senior National Team of Ghana (Black Stars), Mr. Stephen Appiah has appealed to the Government to the commit more monies to the football fraternity.

He made this revelation when he appeared before Parliament fact- finding committee investigating the sordid state of football in the country in Parliament House on Wednesday 24th, September 2024.

According to the formal captain, many football lovers have lost hope in football and that is not good for the country. He emphasized that much attention is given to only the National Team neglecting the the under 17,20, 23 teams and the Women football as well as.

“It’s sad that Ghana has not won any trophy since the last 10 years now. The Ghana Black Stars had won the African Cup of Nations in 2015”. He also observed that some players play very well during the qualifying series and has not been given the opportunity to be part of the Tournament they have played to qualified for and this does not augur well for Team Unity.

The Board Chairman of the National Sports Authority, Hon. Seth Panwun Boyoyo also made an appearance and said the Authority exists to promote and develop the participation of Amateur and professional sports in the country and bemoaned that match between the Black Stars and their Angola counterpart was unfortunate due to the football pitch.” Steps are being taken to correct the situation” he stated

The Chairman of the Committee, Hon.Kobena Mensah Woyome said the committee was a fact- finding one task to investigate the decline happenings of football in the Country which was referred to the Committee by the Rt. Hon. Speaker of Parliament, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin upon the petition by the Fix Ghana Group in February this year.

The Chairman who is also the MP for South Tongu Constituency tasked the Participants to be bold and make their presentation devoid of fear or favour.
