Telecommunication giant MTN Ghana has announced the reinstatement of its innovative bundle offer that gives customers a day validity bundle at discounted rates at the point of purchase.
This was communicated to customers in an SMS on Wednesday.
Suspension
The Zone bundle was suspended on April 5 for revision to align with the Significant Market Power applied to the company three years ago.
The suspension was done without prior notice to customers necessitating agitation.
“We apologise to our cherished customers for limiting our communications on this matter to service activation channels only,” MTN Ghana apologised in a statement.
Reason For Suspension
At a press conference on April 26, the Director-General of the National Communication Authority (NCA), Joseph Anokye, explained that the telecommunication company was directed to suspend the product following observations of a breach of Significant Market Power regulations.
According to him, a review found that for a number of price points, the MTN data Zone bundle was the lowest in the market in violation of SMP directives, plus, the company failed to secure approval before enrolling it and disregarded the mandatory publication of tariffs including the terms and conditions.
“MTN was therefore directed to discontinue until such time that all violations have been remedied,” he said.
Reinstatement
In an SMS sent to customers, MTN Ghana announced the reinstatement of the offer on May 3.
It added that the bundles will come at reviewed prices from May 5.
“Dear Valued Customer, kindly be informed that effective May 5th, 2023, Data Zone bundles will be available to you with revised offers. Visit www.mtn.com.gh for more information. Thank you.”
