Regular Radio callers of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Sunyani West and East constituencies of the Bono region beginning Monday February 6 have boycotted all radio discussion as a result of the dusty nature of the Sunyani Kotokrom road.
The group said, the failure on the part of the government to complete the dusty Sunyani-Kotokrom- Yawhima-Techiman road linking the five northern regions have caused them to be the target of the suffering residents saying, “regular callers have now become the target as people are threatening us most especially those living in and around that vicinity.”
“Day in day out people are casting a whole lot of insinuation on the leadership of the party in the region and the president as well. The most saddened development is, we the regular callers has now become the target as people are threatening us most especially those living in and around that vicinity”, Secretary of the Group, Felix Boateng a.k.a Daddy Boat told Sompa FM in Sunyani in an interview.
“Again we would like to also express much gratitude to H.E Nana Addo Danquah Akuffo-Addo led NPP Government, for the numerous developmental projects constructed across the length and breadth of the region, such as Dormaa Ahenkro, Berekum and Sunyani Inner cities roads and other projects just to mention few. We are much grateful to H.E Nana Addo Danquah Akufo-Addo.”
“As the Akans says "sɛ ɛtire nte yɛa yɛ nyae ɛkyɛ soa". We want to also bring to the attention of the government most especially the Finance and the Roads ministers, one critical project which has become headache to the party in the region. This is the Sunyani-Kotokrom- Yawhima-Techiman road linking the five northern regions. This has become necessary because the party is losing grounds and becoming more unpopular due to the bad state of the said road.”
“Moreover the dusty nature has become threat to human lives especially asthmatic patients and school children, aside people being forced to close down their shops and businesses, which is affecting the economic impact in the municipality. All efforts from both the party leadership in the region, the M.P, as well as the regional minister has proven futile. None of the demonstrations by the drivers and the inhabitants of the affected communities has catches the ears and the eyes of the responsible authorities. Now information we have gathered as communicators is that, the people are planning to hoot at the M.P or any other government or party official who will come to that jurisdiction as it's once happened to our majority leader and minister for parliamentary affairs at Suame magazine sometime ago”, he added.
He called on the government to as a matter of urgency consider the plight of the people and get the road fixed.
“We are therefore calling on the government to give the needed attention it deserves, to bring the said road into a good shape as it's expected, in order for both the party and government to gain back it's glories , which shall make the Breaking the 8 possible and easier.”
Meanwhile, Communication Director of the NPP in the Bono region, Gabriel Korang Ababio told Sompa News in an interview that, he would engage them to bring them back to work.
However, he said much efforts have been made to get the problematic road fixed hence they should exercise patience.
He said, the government has undertaken several road projects in the Sunyani Township and the region in general hence this alone cannot be a yardstick for their boycott.
