It is expected that the various presidential aspirants of the NDC will be accompanied by their supporters to the party’s headquarters to pick their nomination forms which would be made available at the office of the General Secretary.
A statement signed by the General Secretary of the party, Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, said every nomination must be proposed by one person and seconded by five persons all of whom must be members in good standing of the party in different constituencies in different regions.
On Tuesday, February 21, 2023, former president John Dramani made his intentions clear to contest for the flagbearership position of the party.
It’s expected the former president will pick up his nominations forms today at exactly 9 a.m, in a reaction to his second coming as the president of Ghana, political scientist, Mr. Jalilu Ateku, told Omanhene Yaw Adu Boakye on Sompa Tv/Fm morning show that Ghanaians are going to compare the Mahama led NDC administration to the NPP led administration.
He said Ghanaians are aware of the challenges of Mahama’s time and Nana Addo’s time, the dynamics are that NPP will be coming with a new face as NDC will maintain Mahama.
Accessing their personalities, the political expert said, John Mahama by far is the most popular candidate within the NDC; he describes Mr. Addai Nimo as not being too popular as Mr. Alan Kyeremateng, Vice President Bawumia and Kennedy Agyapong who may have the opportunity to lead the NPP ahead of the 2024 general elections.
He advised that the NDC must elect a running mate who is marketable and can fit in the shoes of Mahama since he will only do 4 years.
“The NDC should have it at the back of their mind that the running mate for Mahama should be appealing to Ghanaians so that after 4 years of Mahama, the person can step in”. It's either Mahama elects someone he will end his 4 years tenure with or someone Ghanaians will accept when he takes over from Mahama”, he advised.
According to Dr. Jalilu, any candidate presented by the NPP will be equal to the task of matching the NDC candidate booth for booth provided the party rallies behind that candidate and is devoid of division.
Pushing further by the host, Dr. Jalilu said Dr. Bawumia will be an ideal candidate to banter with Mr. John Dramani Mahama.
“I think Bawumia can face Mahama squarely irrespective of the economic challenges, he is the head of the economic management team, head of all the sectors, so if there are any gains, it’s in favor of him and if there’s any loss it also goes against him”.
